what are your interests and why willow?
My wife says that I have two overarching interests: Blacksmithing (but this is an umbrella term encompassing machining, welding, and anything that involves making stuff) and food (eating it alone, eating it with friends, cooking alone, cooking with friends, watching youtube videos of food etc.) There’s also languages, too! I love learning languages. My family all speaks French, I majored in Mandarin Chinese, dabbled in Arabic (of which I’ve forgetten 99.9%) studied ASL for a year in college and when I was in Thailand and South Korea I did my best to pick up a little bit of each language. I’d love to learn Icelandic or German (my Dad speaks German) Aaaaaaand then there’s pickles. Oh boy, do I love pickles and fermentation! It bores my wife dreadfully, but I could talk about pickles and brewing for literally hours. My family is the same way, we have two barrels of wine fermenting in my parents basement, my brother’s fridge is full of homemade lacto-fermented green beans, sauerkraut and kimchi (he actually won the Boston Pickle Fair Competition this summer, I’m so proud of him! My mum cried with joy. It was a proud moment for our family) and I’ve got five gallons of cider fermenting, and a big jar of pickled onions, too! 🙂 If I had the space, I’d have a root cellar that I filled with all kinds of pickles during the fall to see me through the winter. I’d have pickled cabbage, 芽菜，酸菜，四川泡菜 pickled cucumbers, everything! But I only have so much fridge space. <sigh>
